چکیده

This paper presents a new approach to the project of steel buildings, mainly focused on architectural, structural, and seismic design stairs. The objective is structural stair system capable controlling damage contributing bracing building. article begins with review standard (ATC, FEMA, EC8) which current criteria for buildings stairs are based. research based two spatial building models (A–B) same elements but placed differently. Reference Model A follows classical approaches. It means, considered nonstructural that do not influence behavior structure corresponds typical braced frames (IV-CBF EBF) according EC8. B includes designed help control effects inter-story drifts inertia forces. In this case, were integrated into B. comparative analysis typically (A) versus specially (B) presented. was static nonlinear (pushover) capacity spectrum method (ATC-40) performance levels (FEMA) limitation (EC8). Finally, verified via time-history in order better capture safety evacuation routes their deterministic satisfactory results compared reference systems.

New expressions to estimate damping in direct displacement baseddesign for special concentrically-braced frames

Different expressions have been developed to determine damping of structures based on various hysteretic models and ductility levels. Since Slenderness ratio is an important parameter on the hysteretic behavior of special concentrically- braced frames (SCBF), in this paper new expressions for determination of damping of such frames are developed based on slenderness ratio and ductility. Two typ...

Concentrically Braced Frames: European vs. North American Seismic Design Provisions

A critical review of seismic design provisions for concentrically braced frames (CBFs) in both European and North American (i.e. US and Canadian) codes is presented in this paper. Indeed, even though those codes are based on capacity design philosophy, different requirements and different approaches are used to guarantee the hierarchy of resistances between dissipative and non-dissipative eleme...

Design of Structural Braced Frames Using Group Optimization

Though topology optimization has been applied to many fields, ranging from mechanical to aerospace engineering, more work must be done to tailor it to the needs of the structural engineer, especially in regards to the design of high-rise buildings. Thus, this work aims to improve its application to structural engineering by describing an integrated topology optimization approach involving conti...

Performance-based Plastic Design Method for Buckling- Restrained Braced Frames

This paper presents the key design points of buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs) by using the performance-based plastic design (PBPD) methodology. This method is based on energy-work balance concept and uses pre-selected target drift and yield mechanism as design criteria. Based on multi-mode pushover and time-history analyses, a simple equation is developed for computing yield drift rati...

A New Approach to Predict Cyclic Response and Fracture of Shear Links and Eccentrically Braced Frames

In eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) subjected to large lateral demands, inelastic actions are mostly concentrated in shear links. The links vary in size and, when employed in frames, are known to be subjected to combined tension/compression and shear stress states that influence their strength, low-cycle fatigue behavior, and fracture characteristics. Despite their significance as the main en...
